Whether your summer plans include weddings, trips to the beach, or lazy days in the garden, here we've gathered our favourite five patterns for quick summer knits - and best of all, they're all free!
This gorgeous Country Girl cardigan pattern is absolutely free from The Making Spot. Finished with pretty buttons and a gingham ribbon, it'll look adorable on any young girl.
This pretty Simple lacy shrug by Sarah Hatton is perfect for spring and summer days when you want to wear strappy tops and dresses but still need an extra layer to cover up. It's knitted in one piece, with a simple geometric lace stitch, in the economical Patons Smoothie yarn. Sarah designed it to fit six sizes, from S (to fit bust 31-34 inches) up to XXXL (to fit bust 52-54 inches).
You’ll also need to pick up stitches for the cuffs, but there are only two seams. And don't forget to block it once you've finished the making up.
Covered with chunky cables, this Cool cable bag is perfect for shopping trips or as a beach bag. And best of all, the pattern is free! The finished bag measures 30x32 cm, knitted in two complementary colours.
Ideal for summer dining al-fresco, you could fairly quickly knit up a whole matching set of these simple jolly British placemats. This charming design by Rosee Woodland uses Excelana’s new DK version of its Luxury Wool. Spun using pure British wool, it’s perfect for this Union Jack-inspired project, while the palette of vintage shades adds to the nostalgic feel. The placemat is worked using the intarsia method, with a border knitted on to the central rectangle and worked in the round.
Another brilliant free pattern is Kirstie McLeod's Silky Elegance shawl. This soft lacy shawl is perfect for summer occasions such as weddings or evening events; you can dress it up with a brooch. It's quick to knit, in two luxurious strands of Rowan's Kidsilk Haze (a mix of mohair and silk).
