UK Hand Knitting is searching for the Nation’s Fastest Knitter, with heats taking place at three ICHF events in 2017: the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show in Manchester (2 – 4 February 2017), Sewing for Pleasure and Fashion & Embroidery with Hobbycrafts at the NEC Birmingham (16 – 19 March 2017), and the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show at ExCeL London (20 – 22 April 2017).
And if you want to take part but can't make it to any of those shows, the UKHKA will also be running regional heats online.
If you're interested in taking part, you'll need to knit 100 stitches as quickly as you can. If you're one of the fastest knitters from the heats, the grand final takes place at the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show in London.
The competition will also support the charity Knit For Peace, as all the knitted pieces created in the competition will be donated to them.
The overall winner will receive the Nation’s Fastest Knitter trophy, plus a ‘golden ticket’ giving lifetime free access to all ICHF Event’s shows. Runners-up will receive prizes including yarn and other knitting equipment.
If you need some inspiration, check out this video of the current world's fastest knitter, Hazel Tindall from Scotland, who knitted 262 stitches in three minutes. And you can get some tips from the previous record-holder, Miriam Tegels (who can knit 118 stitches in a minute!) if you click here.
