Escape to Madeira on a glorious seven-night knitting holiday with Arena Travel. Knit to your hearts content on this beautiful island in the Atlantic ocean, taking in the stunning scenery, magnificent gardens and enchanting villages.
Enjoy four days of workshops hosted by Carol Medrum, an experienced textile designer and workshop tutor who has written many popular knitting and crochet books. Throughout the week the focus will be on creating blocks and squares in a selection of techniques to create your very own design, so you can really concentrate on your favourite knitting stitches. This project is perfect for expanding on your existing skills or learning something new and finding out how similar effects can be created in both knit and crochet.
Madeira has an incredibly rich history of crafts, with a traditional focus on embroidery. As part of your holiday you'll get to explore this history and culture with visits to an embroidery factory and the Handicraft and Embroidery Museum. You'll be staying in garden view rooms at the 4 star Enotel Quinta do Sol Hotel which is adjacent to the beautiful Quinta Magnolia Park, so as well as knitting and exploring the island you'll also be in the perfect place for a relaxing break. There is even a Folklore show and dinner included, the perfect opportunity to sample some of the famous Madeira wine!
This special holiday also includes a tour of the island capital, Funchal. Visit the bustling regional market where the stalls are literally bursting with tropical fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and exotic flowers. Island handicrafts are also on sale here so this is the perfect opportunity for shopping too. Not only will you be visiting Funchal, but you'll also take a trip through lovely countryside to the Ribeiro Frio Park filled with endemic flowers and visit a trout hatchery, as well as to Santana which is famous for the brightly coloured “A” framed thatched houses and their lovely gardens.
The tour runs from 30th January 2018 - 6th February 2018 and prices start from £1,249. You can find out more about this Arena holiday here.
