Flip flop crochet pattern

Free crochet pattern: Flip flop pattern by Kirstie McLeod

Try your hand at crochet and hook yourself a pair of fab summer flip flops!

In our latest issue of Simply Knitting we showed off our favourite pick of totally tropical accessories (page 81). As an added bonus, Kirstie McLeod has designed a fab free flip flop pattern for you to hook! Pair this pattern with Scheepjes soft foam flip flop soles on page 81 of Simply Knitting issue 161.

You will need

- a small amount of any 4ply yarn

- a 3.5mm crochet hook

- a pair of Scheepjes soft foam flip flop soles (find them on page 81 of Simply Knitting issue 161)

- a tapestry needle

Flip flops

Ch8, ss into first ch to form a ring.

Round 1 Ch3 (counts as part of 3-tr cluster), work a 2-tr cluster into the centre of the ring, (ch6, 3-tr cluster, ch11, 3-tr cluster, ch6, 3-tr cluster) into the ring, rep once more, ch6, 3-tr cluster, ch11, 3-tr cluster, ch6, ss into the top of the 2-tr cluster.

Round 2 Ch3 (counts as a tr), 1tr into the next ch sp, (ch5, 1tr into the same ch sp, 1tr into the next 11 ch sp, ch5, 1tr into the same 11 ch sp, ch1, 1tr into the same 11 ch sp, ch5, 1tr into same 11 ch sp, 1 tr into next 6 ch sp, ch5 **, 1tr into the same 6 ch sp, 1tr into the next 6 ch sp) rep 2 more times, ending with ** at the end of the round, ss into the 3rd ch. You will finish off with a triangle shape. Fasten off yarn.

Toe loop

Rejoin the yarn in a 1 ch sp on any one of the triangle points.

Ch3, cut yarn leaving a long tail. Remove hook from loop, making sure not to pull loop undone. Thread yarn tail and 3 ch through toe loop. Insert hook back into loop and ss in first ch. Fasten off yarn.

Ankle straps

Rejoin the yarn in either of the remaining 1 ch sp on any of the triangle points.

Ch11, cut yarn leaving a long tail. Remove hook from loop, making sure not to pull loop undone. Thread yarn tail and 11 ch through ankle loop. Insert hook back into loop and ss in second ch from hook. Fasten off yarn.

Repeat for second ankle strap.

To make up

Weave in any ends.

tr treble crochet

2-tr cluster (Yarn over, insert hook in space indicated, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) 2 times, inserting the hook in the same space each time, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.

3-tr cluster (Yarn over, insert hook in space indicated, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops) 3 times, inserting the hook in the same space each time, yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.
