Have you planned a trip to the Spring Knitting & Stitching Show 2017, at Olympia in London? From 2nd to 5th March you can indulge in hundreds of workshops, demonstrations and interactive features, galleries showcasing the work of leading textile artists and groups from all over the world, and hundreds of specialist craft companies selling essential supplies.
There's also the new Enchanted Wood competition to raise funds for a Norfolk hospice's appeal. In the Butterfly Garden you'll find a spectacular collection of hundreds of flowers, trees, butterflies, bugs and mini beasts, all knitted and crocheted. They've been produced by the Louise Hamilton Knit and Yarn Group and Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers, in aid of the Louise Hamilton Trust Hospice Appeal. It's fundraising to build a 10-bed hospice unit at James Paget University Hospital in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
You can join the fundraising by taking part in a competition to create a host of new creatures and habitats for the Enchanted Wood, a new element of the garden. Entries fall into two categories – creatures ( fairies and pixies, elves and hobbits, witches and wizards) and homes (toadstools and tree trunks, logs and burrows). You can either design your own creation or use one of the patterns online. Find out more here.
And with our special discount code, SIMPKNIT you can buy Adult and Concession tickets for just £11 each. That's a saving of £2 on adult tickets and £1 on concessions (terms and conditions and booking fees apply). To buy your tickets click here.
At the show you can also enjoy live demonstrations, panel discussions and workshops in the Creative Living Theatre, from TV sewing stars and other experts.
As part of the Campaign for Creativity, textile artists Caren Garfen and Harriet Riddell will be sharing advice on how to pursue a career in the creative industries – ideal for students.
New for the spring show is a programme of group workshops, giving you as many opportunities to be creative at the show as possible. There’s a new activity to join every day, from wired ribbon rose making with Love Ribbon’s Heather Wright to English paper piecing with Helena Marriott. All sessions are £8 with 30 places available for each, and tickets are bookable on the show website.
You can also enjoy watching the cheeky stop-motion animation Nudinits: Tickled Pink, with regular screenings throughout the show.
