Thinking of visiting Germany’s stunning Christmas Markets? Travel with Stitchtopia for a relaxed and easy journey – with fabulous knitting planned in!

2nd August 2017

It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas, which is why our minds are thinking ahead to the famous Christmas Markets in Germany. Luckily, our lovely friends behind the Stitchtopia Holidays have put together a knitter’s dream trip to visit the markets across Germany.

Join Juliet Bernard for a series of Christmas themed workshops on board the MS Serenity, stopping off at Cologne, Bonn & Rüdesheim for a spot of festive shopping.

Juliet says: “Germany really knows how to bring out the magic of Christmas which I well remember from my childhood – my mother is from Berlin. As well as visiting Cologne, Bonn & Rüdesheim we will have plenty of time to knit some decorations for your Christmas tree and a last minute Christmas gift.”

The splendid cruise includes a well-planned itinerary for each day:

Day 1: London to the Rhine (Cologne)

Catch a midday flight from Heathrow to Düsseldorf, where you will then board the MS Serenity in Cologne. Travel up the Rhine towards Rüdesheim, settling into your floating home with dinner and a welcome.

Day 2: Rhine cruise and Rüdesheim

After breakfast, take in the sites and stories surrounding the Middle Rhine. At lunchtime, explore Rüdesheim and its Christmas markets. Take advantage of an optional excursion to visit the wonderful Siegfrieds’ Mechanical Music Museum, including a warming mug of local Gluhwein. Round the day off with a trip to the famous little street Drosselgasse and take the chance to enjoy the special Rüdesheimer coffee.

Day 3: Rhine cruise: Bonn & Cologne Christmas Markets

After arriving in Bonn in the morning, freely explore the birthplace of Beethoven and look out for the giant advent calendar in the Town Hall. Mid-morning, wander around the Christmas markets. Around lunchtime, depart to Cologne and visit possibly the biggest and best Christmas market in the whole of Germany. The hotel is within walking distance of the markets so you can really shop till you drop!
